The PR1 trail from Pico do Areeiro to Pico Ruivo is considered a moderate to challenging mountain hike. There are steep sections, stairs, tunnels, and uneven terrain. A reasonable level of fitness is recommended, but it is achievable for most active travellers.

No previous hiking experience is required. However, you should be comfortable walking for several hours on mountain terrain and coping with elevation changes.

Yes - your experience includes a local hiking guide who will join you on the trail. They will support the group, manage pacing, share insights about the landscape, and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience throughout the hike.

Trail tickets are not included in the tour price, but we will book them for you in advance, ensuring everything is arranged before the day of your hike.

You will have a dedicated driver for the entire day, handling hotel pick-up, transfers to Pico do Areeiro, and collection from Pico Ruivo after the hike. This allows the hiking guide to stay with the group while logistics are fully taken care of.
